GUELLEH BATAL WINS D’JIBOUTI SUPPER CUP

Gulleh Batle FC, one of the strongest football clubs in D’jibouti has won the country’s supper cup after walloping the current champions the AS port by 2-1 in a hotly-contested match which attracted the attention of high profile officials including minister of sports Dr Jama Elmi Okieh, Minister of budgets Amarreh Ali Said, Djibouti FA president Souleiman Hassan Waberi and members of his executive committee. Tens of thousands of zealous spectators had occupied the Guled stadium hours before the match kick off. The jubilant fans were chanting slogans to support each of the clubs.

2012 CECAFA DRAW COMPLETED

Hosts and reigning champions Uganda might have to negotiate some tough games if they are to sail through to the last eight of the 2012 edition of the CECAFA Tusker sponsored tournament. The Cranes were drawn in a strong group at the draw conducted on Monday. Uganda was drawn in Group A in what is easily the group of death in the 36th edition of the CECAFA Tusker sponsored challenge cup that will be played in Uganda from 24th November to 8th December at the Mandela National Stadium Namboole.

2013 AFRICA CUP OF NATIONS DRAW RELEASED

The draw for the 29th edition of Africa Cup of Nations to be hosted by South Africa between 19th January and 10th February is out. Ethiopia who are back after a 20-year absence will open their campaign with a match against defending champions Zambia on 21st January at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit. Another Group C clash pitting Nigeria and Zambia should be a must watch.

The Somali National football team ‘Ocean stars’ on Friday flew to Kampala where they will participate in this year’s CECAFA senior challenge cup, according to Somali Football Federation Secretary General Abdi Qani Said Arab.

ELMAN FC WIN SOMALI LEAGUE TITLE 2012

Elman Football Club who are the winners of Somalia’s 2012 division A football tournament have been presented the trophy at a colourful ceremony at the Safari hotel in Mogadishu on Wednesday during which Banadir Sports club were also handed the General Da’ud cup trophy for the year 2012. A minute of silence was observed in the remembrance of former SFF president Said Mahmoud Nur and former Somali NOC chief Aden Hajji Yeberow who were killed in a suicide explosion in April this year.

SOMALI FOOTBALL HISTORY

Somalia is a country located in the Horn of Africa. It is bordered by Djibouti to the northwest, Kenya on its southwest, the Gulf of Aden with Yemen on its north, the Indian Ocean at its east, and Ethiopia to the west. Football was introduced to Somalia by the colonial powers around during the early 19 th century. The game was initially played by the Europeans who later introduced it to the indigenous community. Somalia was colonised by the British in the North, Italy in the south and the French controlled the French Somali land which is current nation of Djibouti. The British and Italian protectorates gained their independence and united to form the nation of Somalia .
